The rules for the new Subclass 870 (Sponsored Parent (Temporary)) visa

The new Migration Amendment (Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa and Other Measures) Regulations 2019 will commence on 17 April 2019, and it includes the details of the Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa (TSPV), which provides parents with a new pathway to temporarily reunite with their children and grandchildren in Australia. To be eligible for the visa, a parent must be the biological, adoptive, or step-parent of the sponsor, who must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsor also must have a minimum household taxable income threshold of $83,454.80 and  have no debts to the Commonwealth or outstanding public health debts. Changes to occupation lists on March 11, 2019

Australia has announced some major changes to its immigration system, including eligible occupations for permanent and temporary immigration. In the latest update, 36 new occupations have been added to the Medium and Long-Term Skill List, including professional footballers and tennis coaches. The new changes will apply to new applications and will not affect existing nominations or applications. Five Year Parent Visa – from 17 April 2019

Minister Coleman has announced today that the new five year sponsored parent visa, the Subclass 870 Parent (Temporary) Visa, will be open for application on 17 April 2019. Parents will be able to stay for up to five years at a time without departing and the Department has announced that up to 15,000 per year will be granted. NB: The introduction of this visa is still subject to introduction of supporting regulations Charges Sponsorship application: $420 Visa application charge: $5,000 for 3 years duration, $10,000 for five years duration   The visa application charge is payable in two instalments, with one payment at time of application and the remainder paid prior to visa grant.   Other features include: No Balance of Family test will be applied ‘No work’ conditions will be applied Require health insurance Must provide evidence of access to funds   Further information is available on the  Department’s website  Source: MIA

Trades Recognition Australia – new fee payment arrangements

From 1 March 2019, Trades Recognition Australia require skills assessment fees for the following services to be paid through the TRA Online Portal: TSS Skills Assessment Program (TSS program) Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP) Trades Recognition Service (TRS)    Before a payment can be made, applicants must select a TRA approved registered training organisation to conduct their skills assessment from  TRA RTO Finder. The chosen RTO will provide the applicant with an RTO assessment payment identifier code that must be used to make payment through the TRA Online Portal for the required service. A link to the portal will be available on the TRA website from 1 March 2019. For technical issues related to payments the relevant contact is   RTOFinanceandIT@education.gov.au. Working Holiday Maker Visas – third visa amendments

Legislative Instrument –  F2019L00196 – Migration Amendment (Working Holiday Maker) Regulations 2019, increases the maximum number of Subclass 417 and 462 visas a person may hold in Australia to three visas. These Regulations increase the maximum number of ‘working holiday maker’ visas from two to three, where the visa holder meets additional work requirements.  The applicant is required to complete 6 months specified work in specified circumstances in order to be eligible for a third ‘working holiday maker’ visa.  This Instrument amends Schedule I, Items 1224A(3) and 1225(3B) and Schedule 2 subclauses 417.211 and 417.222, and subclauses 462.218 and 462.219, to insert these requirements for an application for a third visa in these subclasses. Applicants for third WHV must have undertaken 6 months specified work while holding a second WHV and that this work was carried out on or after 1 July 2019.  The specified work and circumstances are set out in IMMI 17/018: Working Holiday Visa – Specified Work and Regional Australia) Instrument 2017 This Instrument commences on 1 July 2019.   Source: MIA
